CIW featured in nationally distributed Certification Magazine - July 17, 2007
The July 2007 issue of Certification Magazine features an article by CIW Chief Certification Architect, Dr. James Stanger, titled "How to Make Yourself Offshore-Proof."
The article describes various trends in Web-related job roles and how IT skills are becoming more important in the business world to protect jobs that could be exported offshore. It also talks about specific essential skills, including project management and E-commerce marketing, which are not getting outsourced to offshore companies.
CIW collaborates with Scottish Qualification Authority - July 16, 2007
CIW recently signed an agreement with Scottish Qualification Authority’s (SQA) Digital Media and ICT Vendor Alliance (DIVA) program.
The three year non-exclusive Memorandum of Understanding will see the introduction of CIW Foundations course into the HN Interactive Media qualification. Additionally, a professional development scheme will be created to enable uptake of CIW awards in Scottish colleges.
New! Software updates to Foundations curriculum
The latest version of Instructor-Led CIW Foundations books will map to the latest versions of some of the most popular software programs featured in the course curriculum.
Most notably, Foundations will use Internet Explorer 7 instead of version 6 and will be adding Firefox 2.0 and removing Netscape Navigator as the primary Internet browsers. The curriculum will also map to the latest versions of Outlook Express and Thunderbird e-mail clients. Additionally, the latest versions of other open-source software and freeware will also be highlighted.
However, the course will continue to use Windows XP as its primary operating system and will not be changed to Vista during this update.
New! Foundations Companion Web site with online resources
CIW will be launching a brand new virtual campus in June 2007 that will serve as a companion Web site to Foundations. The campus will feature resource centers with supplemental material specifically designed for both students and instructors.
Instructors will have access to over 1300 new course review questions that can be used for quizzes, tests and other class assignments. The multiple-choice questions cover all topics of Foundations and are based on the entire course content, not just exam objectives. The questions are completely integrated with material from the book and can be used to assess students’ comprehension and understanding of the material throughout the course.
Students will have access to interactive exercises including fill-in-the-blank, true/false, categorizing, matching and crossword puzzles. The self-testing exercises provide immediate scoring and feedback after completion, allowing the student to focus on topics that require additional study. The exercises are based on Foundations content and prepare students to excel in tests and quizzes that feature multiple-choice questions.
AssessPREP migrates to online availability
CIW will be transitioning its AssessPREP supplemental study material from CD based to an online format in June 2007. The content will stay consistent with previous versions of AssessPREP and will map to exam objectives to help reinforce course material. All features will remain intact online, including pre- and post-assessment aptitude testing, personalized study plans and instant reports.
To access the new online assessment for the classroom, an electronic license can be purchased from a CIW account representative that will feature an individualized access code for the CIW virtual campus.
Product code and ISBN changes
Due to the additional features and changes to the Foundations course content, product codes and ISBNs have been updated. When ordering Instructor-Led curriculum, be sure to order using the most current code.
Codes are different if you represent a school or academic institution or a learning center or corporation.

Prepare for Perkins Act changes
Significant amendments have been made to the recently updated Perkins Act of 2006. The updated Act goes into effect for Academic Year 2007-08.
CIW-certified.com has created two documents to help you sort through some of the most important alterations to the Act. Each of the documents details what you need to know when writing your State plan or Local plan and how CIW can be implemented as a solution to the new Perkins Act requirements.
CIW Exams now covered under VA Benefits
US veterans can now use their Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits to cover CIW examination fees for 12 various CIW certification exams. The VA education benefits are effective retroactively to June 1, 2005.
Veterans eligible for benefits through the Montgomery G.I. Bill can submit proof of their exam results and fee payment to the VA for reimbursement of the CIW exam fees, currently $125 per exam. The benefit is still valid even if an individual does not pass the exam.
