CIW Representatives Attend FBLA-PBL Conferences June 23 - July 1, 2007

CIW representatives had the pleasure of attending the 2007 Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) National Leadership Conferences in Chicago, Ill., during the week of June 23 to July 1. FBLA-PBL is an educational association for students preparing for business-related careers.
The CIW program sponsored the desktop publishing event and also operated a booth in the exhibition space during each of the conferences, where CIW representatives spoke with teachers, faculty and students about the CIW program.
The final results from the competitive events showed that students who had earned CIW certifications or had taken classes using the CIW curriculum placed in the top 10 of national finalists.
Several students from Perkinston Campus at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College who completed Web classes taught with the CIW curriculum finished in the top 10 of the PBL competitive events.
Rachel Barthel and Sandy Burrell finished in first place in the E-Business competition, and James (Matt) Hayes finished fifth in the Computer Applications competition.
Jenifer Heid, a Bismarck (North Dakota) State College student with a CIW Associate Design Specialist certification, finished eighth place in the Desktop Publishing competition at the PBL conference.
In addition to participating in the competitive events, students and advisors were invited to attend a workshop at both the PBL and the FBLA conferences presented by CIW Certification Specialist Stephen Schneiter. Schneiter's presentation, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: The Role of Web Design in Business," described the state of today's Web site design standards and discussed how to improve and incorporate Web 2.0 techniques to increase revenues.
More than 100 people attended each of the three different workshop sessions held throughout the two conferences. CIW T-shirts were given away at the conclusion of the presentations.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the conference, visited the CIW booth or attended the CIW workshop!
CIW representatives look forward to being a part of this event in 2008. See you next year!
