Pellissippi College Honors CIW Certificants
On May 1, 2008, Pellissippi State Technical Community College (PSTCC) hosted its first reception for the college's Web Technology program graduates and recipients of CIW (Certified Internet Web Professional) certifications. "We had 44 individuals get CIW-certified with a total of 52 certifications during this academic year [Fall 2007/Spring 2008]," reported Gay Bryant, PSTCC's Web Technology Coordinator. "Our students earned CIW Associate, CIW Professional and Master CIW certifications in Internet Foundations, Site Design, E-Commerce and JavaScript."
PSTCC is one of many educational institutions that have incorporated CIW courseware, exams and certifications into their IT programs. The Web Technology concentration in PSTCC's Media Technology AAS (associate of applied science) degree program trains students in Web design. The concentration offers a degree and certifications built around CIW, the vendor-neutral professional certification program that validates competency in information technology standards and skills, and proves knowledge of leading hardware and software technology.
CIW is the world's largest and fastest-growing Internet certification program for the knowledge economy. Courses that incorporate CIW at PSTCC can be taken for college credit or non-credit; course content is the same. Additionally, PSTCC offers up to 16 hours of college credit for entering students who already hold CIW certifications.
A fully accredited, public two-year college, PSTCC is located in Knoxville, Tenn. Approximately 185 full-time faculty, 265 adjunct faculty and 231 staff members serve more than 7,000 students, including as many as 150 international students.
