Maduka reaped the benefits and rewards of being a CIW Associate in a short period of time after earning his CIW certification. "I rose to become a Team Lead in most of the Web application projects that my company wins. I also got a pay raise," Maduka said. "In terms of responsibility, I've got millions of it. It's been a very interesting challenge for me."
CIW Associate achieves promotion and acclaim from co-workers
When Maduka Samson Okafor was studying to take the CIW Foundations examination, he was only one of a select few in his hometown of Abuja, Nigeria to pursue such a certification. Maduka knew earning the CIW Associate distinction could potentially earn him a promotion, more recognition from his peers and a pay raise.
Shortly after passing the CIW Foundations exam at a local testing site, Maduka earned a promotion to Team Lead for an international Web development firm.
"I chose to become CIW-certified so I would have authority in my field of specialization, Web Development," Maduka explained. "I still remain the only one who has [CIW certification] in my company."
His new position requires giving daily Web site support to the company's clients. To accomplish this, Maduka has had to apply much of his CIW knowledge continually, whether it is following W3C Web development standards or IP addressing.
"All the Web sites I currently develop are based on HTML Transitional," Maduka said. "Everything about structure, look and feel in all my jobs are CSS-driven, which makes Web site structure easy to modify."
In addition to his full-time position, Maduka also does freelance Web Development for various small organizations and businesses. One of Maduka's current projects is a Web site for a local children's nursery school, www.marymountnursery.com. Though it is not completely finished, the Web site incorporates much of the knowledge he acquired through his CIW training.
Maduka plans on continuing to earn additional CIW certifications by pursuing the Master CIW Enterprise Developer certification.
"It has been a big plus for me to have the CIW Associate certification," Maduka said. "I'm already preparing for the next [certification]."
