Internet Skills Enabled CIW Professional to Get Dream Job
Kevin Leahy decided to attend a Web Technologies training course because he wanted to further his career but did not have any technology experience. Kevin heard about the CIW Professional certification program from a radio advertisement in Atlanta, Georgia and attended an information session to learn more about CIW.
After attending the information session, Kevin was convinced that CIW would fit his needs. Kevin enrolled in the CIW training course at TechTrain at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, a CIW Authorized Training Partner (ATP). Kevin chose the CIW program over other Web Technologies programs because he thought the CIW program offered the best opportunity to gain a solid foundation for Web applications and online technologies. Committed to his career advancement, Kevin attended the CIW classes in the evening after work.
Kevin took the CIW Foundations and CIW Site Designer classes, which prepared him for his CIW Professional certification. According to Kevin, the most useful element of the CIW curriculum was the exposure to all facets of the online world such as Web languages, programs and functionalities.
At the time Kevin attended CIW courses at TechTrain, he was working as an administrative temp at an Internet consulting company, making $11 per hour. A year later he is doing exactly what he wanted to be doing, at the same company, making significantly more.
When the company Kevin worked for had to lay off around 1,400 of its 3,000 employees, Kevin was able to keep his job primarily because of the Internet skills and knowledge he gained from CIW certification classes. Kevin has been able to use his CIW skills in many cost-cutting projects, primarily through Web-enabled solutions.
Kevin's portfolio includes Web-based internal newsletters, Websites and case study development and distribution through online channels (company intranet and extranet).
