Description
The Associated Press is seeking a Technician for its Washington, DC location to provide support for cross media equipment for both internal and external customers. Internal support entails support of all technology deployed at this location and surrounding offices. In addition, support of local infrastructure such as phone, network and power systems as required. Applicants must have 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role.
Technical Environment:
Travel may be required for scheduled maintenance and/or emergency events and breaking news coverage as required. Work hours may include evenings, holidays and/or weekends. 24 x 7 emergency service response as required. Assignments may require working at heights, use of a ladder and some heavy lifting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide internal and external customer support to a consistently high standard over a broad range of technology across all media types (online, text, photos, graphics, audio and video)
- Active member of the Global Service Desk escalation and reporting processes
- Support of identified mobile phones / PDAs
- Support of customer premise equipment as required
- Installation and support of phone instruments.
- Liaise with the Telecoms team on system admin changes
- Support of all technology types as required across both the Windows and Mac platforms
- Available on-call 24x7 as required via company mobile phone
- Visit customer sites as required; sometimes over long distances and at short notice
- Accurately record all support activities in the AP’s support ticketing systems
- Track AP assets in observance of the Company’s audit and compliance procedures including necessary maintenance of asset records
- Support special and breaking news events as requested
- Work with the broadcast engineers as required, in the routine maintenance and installations of broadcast equipment
Requirements:
- Computer or electronics 2 year degree or equivalent
- Understanding of Customer Service principles
- Familiar and comfortable with MS Windows networks
- Working knowledge of Mac platform and OS
- Working knowledge of physical networking (LAN wiring / electrical, etc.)
- Able to support wireless and mobile devices
- Understanding of editorial and newsroom operations preferred
- Familiar with web technologies
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Solid prioritization and time management skills
- Works effectively even when under pressure
- Capable of working unsupervised
- Fluent in English
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to gain clearance into government facilities
