Are you looking for a way to use creativity in the workplace? The National Security Agency is looking for a User Experience (UX) Designer to lead the strategy and design for next generation analysis tools for the Intelligence Community.

The Application Orchestration Services Section is seeking a talented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, organized, and highly energetic User Experience (UX) Designer to join our team to build new applications in a collaborative and inclusive work environment by working with users and product managers to develop unique solutions.  Join us to work at the forefront of product development in an organization that's focused on promoting consistent processes and practices across the Agency in the areas of user experience engineering, systems engineering, operational engineering and support, and customer outreach.  As a member of the User Experience Team, you will be charged with blending both technical expertise and mission knowledge in providing design support for a full line of over 20 Analytic Modernization tools.

Our UX Designers develop the user experience for new applications from concept to completion.  We work closely with development teams to build solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible.  We continually collaborate and engage cross-organizationally with fellow user experience engineers, software development teams, product leads, stakeholders, and customers on the visual designs.  Our designers document the design and drive through the details to make everything simple and delightful.  The User Experience Team strives to make great applications in a collaborative and agile work environment.  Join us to work at the forefront of product development in an organization that's all about the product.

Skills:

  • Create and maintain up-to-date documentation on computer applications and/or programs.
  • Identify and write software standards and practices documentation.
  • Build software prototypes.
  • Design and develop Web-based applications.
  • Design and develop user interfaces.
  • Evaluate or test computer applications or programs for usability in order to meet performance objectives.
  • Design and create user interfaces for web applications.
  • Design communication campaigns and strategies.
  • Design, create, and implement websites.
  • Draft storyboards for production.
  • Analyze current tools for proper functionality.
  • Analyze operational architecture, tools, and procedures for ways to improve performance.
  • Provide feedback to tool developers.
  • Developing specialized tools and/or computer-based programs to process analytic problems.
  • Effective use of theories, methods, and tools used to develop graphics and animation.
  • Applying accessibility tools and technology.
  • Applying human factors and/or cognition principles to the design of tools, systems, tasks, ergonomics and environments.
  • Applying human factors and/or cognition principles to the development of user interfaces.
  • Effective use of data presentation, and visual representation principles.
  • Using principles, techniques, and procedures to facilitate understanding the intended message.
  • Receiving and conveying information using computers, software applications, multimedia and other technologies and techniques.
  • Effectively designing, developing and editing multimedia products.
  • Providing the most appropriate and/or required media formats. Reproduces, distributes, and archives multimedia products in a variety of formats.
  • Using a variety of equipment and software to create and edit multimedia products.
  • Effectively applying NSA/CSS policies and directives and understanding NSA/CSS and customer organizations, practices, missions, and goals.
  • Deriving, developing requirements from customer interaction and needs.
  • Testing and evaluating end user experience.
  • Participate in career development or related learning activities (for example, challenging work, developmental assignments, self-guided research, training, conferences).
  • Communicate information or ideas clearly, concisely, and professionally.
  • Demonstrate features and functions of systems, processes, procedures, or technologies.
  • Use visual aids or presentation technology (for example, graphics software, audio-visual media) to enhance presentations.
  • Evaluate guidelines, regulations, or procedures to determine appropriateness and applicability to tasks.
  • Research/consult a variety of sources (for example, reports, records, databases, colleagues, past studies, journals, Internet, databases) to understand a situation, issue, or problem.
  • Consolidate or integrate information to draw conclusions and solve problems that impede work progress or effectiveness.
  • Work with customers to clarify their needs and to determine how their needs can be met.
  • Use specialized software packages for tasks such as inventory management, financial management, equipment diagnostics, or other specialized functions.

Licenses/Certifications:  PMP or DAWIA certification desirable

Qualifications

Salary Range: $44,941- $71,467 (Entry/Developmental)

Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position.

Entry is with a Bachelor's degree and no experience. A high school diploma or GED plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience may be considered.

Degree in Design or Computer Science (e.g., Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, and Information Architecture) is preferred.

Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following design areas (e.g., user centered, software user interface, graphic/visual, interaction, web development, and information architecture) and/or usability and user research. Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Adobe Certified Associate, Adobe Certified Expert, and Certified Internet Web (CIW) Associate) are preferred.

Salary - $66,510 - $103,639 (Full Performance)

Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree and no experience. A high school diploma or GED plus 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience may be considered.

Degree in Design or Computer Science (e.g., Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, and Information Architecture) is preferred.

Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following design areas (e.g., user centered, software user interface, graphic/visual, interaction, web development, and information architecture) and/or usability and user research. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday.
